Steps to Get a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)

1) Meet Requirements

• Be 18+ (21 for interstate driving/hazmat)

• Have a valid Minnesota or Wisconsin driver’s license

2) Study & Take Written Tests

• General Knowledge

• Air Brakes (if needed)

• Combination Vehicles (for Class A)

3) Bring Required Document(s)

• Proof of citizenship

• Current driver’s license

4) Apply for CLP

• Pass knowledge test(s)

• Pay fees at DMV/DVS center
